Three Simple Tips for Writing Powerful Survey Cards
June 24, 2009
Surveys are a great way to figure out what your customers think is or isn’t working in your business. You can conduct surveys through small four color business cards you can hand to them directly. You can also do it through postcards you can have us mail to third-party lists fresh off the press. Still, it’s important to write your surveys well so that your customers actually fill them out, and not throw away with the garbage. Here are some tips on how to write surveys so you get valuable feedback from them.
Tips for Writing Effective Surveys
Be clear and balanced
Keep your instructions simple and easy to understand. Don’t write your questions that assume something about the people filling them up (“What products are you still buying from our competitors?”) or limit their answers in any way (“Is our customer service super good or just good?”). Your customers should be able to answer your questions as naturally as possible.
For best results, get a third party to review your questions before you have our commercial postcard printing services send them out. Or do a small sampling first to check if people have an easy time understanding and answering your questions.
Be simple and focused
There are only so many questions you can fit on a card, so choose the few questions that are most important to your business. Stick to one topic, and resist the urge to cram several questions into one. You can always do a separate survey for a different topic later on.
Be inviting
Let your customers know at first glance what your survey is for. If possible, give them a small reward for their time and input too. A free gift certificate for the first couple hundred respondents to your color postcard marketing is a good way to do this without having to set up any more complicated incentive programs.
Once you’ve got these covered, you’re well on your way to making effective surveys that can benefit your business for yourself and your customers. Use the information you get well and survey as much as needed to keep getting great business results.
